If you’re a newcomer to the stock market you might feel a bit bewildered by the whole process. What does all this jargon mean and where do you start trying to learn it? Thanks to the Internet actually learning about how to buy stocks for beginners is much easier. There is so much information out there that the problem is often how to work out what is good information and what is bad. How can you tell what advice to follow if you’re just a beginner?
From my experiences it’s better to stick to the big websites names that you know and trust. I’m talking about Google Finance and Yahoo Finance. These websites have pretty much everything you will need as a stock market beginner and will allow you to get up and running almost immediately. Any company you’re interested in will have a detailed breakdown of their stock price and a history for the past ten years or so. You are also kept up to date with the latest financial news and any trends that might be occurring in the stock market. So if you’re interested in day trading strategies you will have up to the minute information to work from.
I also spent a great deal of time on the Motley Fool website and their wonderful user community. If there were any terms I was unsure about I could quick raise a question in there and someone would get back to me and explain what it meant. I’ve never met such a helpful bunch.
You could also spend some time at your local library. I’m a big fan of Warren Buffett and have spent lots of time reading through books about him and his techniques for investing. His company Berkshire Hathaway also publish the notes from the annual general meeting which you can use to pick up some helpful hints. In some ways it makes sense to start with this sort of approach and learn how to identify a bargain stock rather than having to jump right in with all the technical terms.
In conclusion, there are lots of sites out there dealing with stocks for dummies but I found a few which were useful. Be careful which sites you take advice from and if possible stick to the well known brand websites such as Google or Yahoo.
